Greek heritage, Mexican soul, and a beautifully balanced celebration
So typically speaking most weddings take 12- 18 months to plan… not this one!
When Alex and Felipe first came to me, they were planning something small a simple celebration before hosting a larger wedding in Mexico later on. With a baby on the way and a house move looming, they had just four months to plan.
This didn’t feel too hard, just a bit of cake and bubbles was the initially ask, no problem that can be done in that time.
So as I began planning, with only a couple of months to go, I was grabbing the couple all the deals I could, because we weren’t in competition with other couples for the same dates and suppliers.
Plus I’m Italian, brought up on…”so, what’s you best price?” – European haggling style.
As I was going back to them with the prices I’d secured, their vision for the day began to change. It became clear this was no longer just a placeholder wedding, they now wanted the big Greek wedding. Wait, did I forget to mention? Yes, the bride was Greek.
Culture was everything to this couple, they wanted meaningful person and rooted in their traditions.
So the plan changed.
“Luisa,” they said, “let’s make this our full wedding.”
And that’s exactly what we did.
The bride is Greek. The groom is Mexican. It was really important to Felipe to bring a sense of home to his wedding. With the majority of his friends and family back there including his mum, who he holds dearly to him. It was so important to bring his Mexican culture into the wedding. To bring that sense of distance from his native land with him – on his very special day.
You know us we love culture and family so the vision wasn’t about choosing one culture over the other was about honouring both.
This is where my design dossier process comes in, and where we get personal! Honestly, one of my favourite bits!
I got right into their love story, how they boned over their heritage. What was specially important to them was that their guests were well looked after, no-one going hungry.
My idea of perfect clients. I then translated their beautiful story into colour, materials, food, music and experience.
For this wedding, the guiding principles were:
Mexican weddings are often celebrated for their vibrant palettes but we didn’t want to go over board with the colour crazy, this wasn’t a kids party. So, we course two stable colours fuchsia pink and bold orange. This wedding was full of zest, that we even carried this through to the scattered fruit on the tables – grapefruit, orange, lemons!
Fruit decor is quite a staple at Luisa Lombardi Events, 2026 weddings will more of this – figs, grapes, pears… Oh, sorry, got-side tracked! But it’s going to be a vibe so stayed tuned on my instagram ;).

The bride loved lemons, reminded her of Yaya took her back to her childhood at summer holidays in Greece, in her garden as they where scatted all around. And as she was no longer with us, it felt like a truly deeply personal way to include her in the day. She was all around at everyone’s seat.
So, real lemons where scattered around the wedding breakfast just as they would have in Yaya’s garden. They where the name cards, a leaf was attached to each lemon. The guests absolutely loved it and became a talking point of the wedding.
At the end of the day we had a lot of lemons left over so I asked the bride what she wanted to do with them. She said keep them.
Okay…thank you! But what does one do with 80 lemons?
Well…When life gives you lemons – you make Limoncello of course! What else is an Italian to do! Actually, Ronan stepped in and called it Ronancello, he was thinking this would made a great side-hustle but then we quickly went back to the madness of wedding season so, nevermind!

Rather than separating cultures into different moments, we blended them naturally across the the wedding.

Mexican influences
Greek influences

Speeches flowed between Spanish and Greek – a beautiful reminder that this wasn’t a fusion theme, but a shared identity.
We honestly LOVED this wedding – as it was everything our brand is and more. We felt like it was a wedding which felt like home. We felt like family, there was so much love for us and a massive thank you to us in speeches – we heard the most beloved words by wedding planners “this day would have never been without you”.

This was one of my proudest moments as a planner and designer. One of them moments where you look back and go… “Wow, I really did this” in such a short time AND with a strict budget.
Still warms my heart today thinking about it.
I hope this has given you some inspiration. Or if you’re reading this from a place of trust, just know we really do wholeheartedly care about all our weddings and just feel privileged to share it with you.
